Polpettone della zia

500 gr minced meat

1 egg

1/2 dl breadcrumbs

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 dl shredded sun-dried tomatoes

1 yellow onion, chopped

1 tablespoon whole fennel seeds

2 dl tomato juice (1 dl ketchup diluted with 1 dl water)

salt, pepper

2 dl grated parmesan

1 packet of bacon (can also be replaced with parma ham)

some fresh rosemary sprigs


  • Mix eggs, breadcrumbs, mustard, tomatoes, onions, fennel seeds and tomato juice into a batter in a bowl

  • Add the minced meat, salt, pepper and mix well

  • Put the minced meat in a greased oblong form

  • Place the bacon on top and press down at the edges stick the rosemary sprigs on top

  • Bake in the oven at 175 degrees for about 45 minutes

  • Served with baked or cooked potatoes and a crispy green salad
